By interrogating my own and others expectations of myself, I have developed an interest in making work that challenges, subverts and expands these expectations. My methodology for creating work revolves around a grid I devise with carefully selected materials, sounds, and stimuli specific to the main expectation I am unpicking and exploding in the performance zone I create. By meticulously using the grid as my sole mode of making performance I am led to become very selective with the materials I use. Each element has its own place, logic and purpose within the performance zone. Materials arrive within the piece in their own unique form and linear, established again from the grid, and experimented with by myself within the performance and rehearsal process. I have become attached to making performance with this structured method, as it enables my projects to be enriched with the themes and research questions I am exploring through my internal logic.
